Lync Up: For Mac
Microsoft Lync wants to use the OC_KeyContainer keychain. It was putting up a prompt saying: Microsoft Lync wants to the 'OC_KeyContainer_ useraddress' keychain and asking for a password. Usual user password doesn't work. Anyway, after some digging it's pretty easy to fix if you see it. Microsoft Lync wants to use the OC. Skype for Business will be available for Mac in 2016. Until then, Lync for Mac 2011 is available for you to download and install.
I'm getting crashes immediately on start-up with Lync 14.0.7 (and 14.0.6). The Crash Report shows that something is hanging up with the NSNotificationCenter on Mavericks which causes Lync to crash.
I've reinstalled several times, even rolled back to 14.0.6, and it's still happening. I trashed both the Microsoft Lync Data folder and the com.microsoft.lync.plist file, and they haven't been recreated yet, as Lync is not even getting to the point in the start-up where it looks for or creates those files. I've restarted several times, and have been running it on a separate Mac with no problems.
It seems to me that Lync is trying to set up a notification observer, which is already allocated or some-such. In any event it seems like just setting up the observer, maybe without de-allocating it first, is doing something-or-other. Please pardon the technical jargon;) Let me create and paste in a fresh crash report.
That was easy;) Here's the first part showing the crash. D zurn, We apologize that Lync is crashing immediately on startup. We have narrowed down to what the problem is. It occurs when Lync is unable to get the product name for a device that is connected to the system. We would really appreciate it if you can do the following two things: 1) Disconnect all devices that are connected to the machine, esp headphone/telephony devices. Try logging in to Lync and verify it does not crash 2) Can you provide a list of devices that you have connected? Thanks Well shoot, disconnecting the USB devices let Lync finally start up!

I've burned iDVD video disks with the drive (the speed doesn't matter since it's best to burn at the slowest speed available and with this drive it's 4x unless burning directly from iDVD at 2x).
What's odd is that these devices have been attached for a long time, and only intermittently caused Lync to crash. Attached USB devices (reattached after Lync started up, data from 'System Information').

I reinstalled the app 14.0.7 from 'lync14.0.7131205.dmg' Ran Lync, and immediately received the same crash at the same point. The exact same version works on my other Macs, and connects as expected. I also ran the invaluable connection analyser at and it showed ' Connectivity Test Successful with Warnings' but the warning was only related to Windows certificates, which I don't use on the Mac. Get a Lync popup error report immediately on opening my Mac and multiple crashes during use, often in calls. Getting embarrassing and now too buggy to use. Viswanath - appreciate you trying to help but seems the balance of work should be on you guys - how about starting by tracking down the error reports - I know I've submitted many. Sure it might be our hardware, our users or our particular device but, especially given these are Macs, there's only a certain amount of variation - hard to imagine we're doing something to cause this - more like the software isn't very tolerant and hasn't been actively kept up to date with the OS. Would love to know how many devs actually spend any time on Lync 2011 for Mac enhancements/bugs - my bet is one or less. Don't suppose there's any replacement third-party tool that works?

Not that this makes you feel any better - but we are doing Lync at my enterprise - and supporting Lync for mac is something that is entirely impossible and impractical to do. My Enterprise Mac users have simply resigned themselves to the fact that Lync will crash several times daily and their mileage will vary when using Conferencing. It's completely a farce. Our helpdesk is constantly deleting keychains, reinstalling - trusting certs etc. So, the issue isn't with you it's with Microsoft being completely unable to solution the Enterprise that has users that simply must (choose to) use MAC. I had another flurry of meetings with Lync yesterday, so I had my desktop Mac (new Mac Mini), my personal laptop (MacBook Pro) and my iPhone, all trying to maintain meeting connectivity. I started with my iPhone for audio, then tried to migrate to my MacBook Pro successfully. However due to calling Mexico, the connection was flaky and kept dropping off/other party can't hear/ the usual. But somehow when I went back to my desktop machine, I saw the Lync icon with a red (1) indicator!
Somehow it started up and finally started working on my desktop Mac, when it had been crashing on start-up for about a week. So only after getting a notification on my desktop Lync was Lync able to finally start up and not crash. So what exactly did I do to make it work?
Dunno, except that it got its notification, which it seemed to be crashing while looking for, and then it could work. So it works for now, but not sure how long it will continue to work. And yes, I'm gonna mark my own answer as the solution;) Edit: Unmarked as answer, see my post from 2014-02-25. I wanted to report to the community my progress on a PSS case. There are problems with 14.0.7. IMO, users should NOT run 14.0.7. There are problems with the upgrade.
The upgrade is not cleaning up properly. Upgrade is bad. Clean install is good. To resolve 75% of the crashes - do a CLEAN INSTALL of the Lync for MAC client.

THEN, install 14.0.6 (clean install, again - if you do not do this - it will remain screwed up). Hang onto 14.0.6 until 14.0.8 comes out as 14.0.8 will be supported in Mavericks.
Microsoft Lync For Mac

After about a week of working on my main Mac computer, Lync os back to crashing immediately after Lync app start-up. I went through the ENTIRE clean uninstall (AGAIN), even moving my conversation history to a different folder, and installing 14.0.6, and Lync still crashes in exactly the same place with the same crash info from Microsoft Error Reporting.
It's very early in the app start-up process. In fact, the plist hasn't even been recreated yet, and I never see the blue login screen. There is definitely something screwy with the NSNotificationCenter calls, as that's where the crash is happening with both 14.0.6 and 14.0.7.

I've sent at least 50 error reports on this. Where else can we complain about this bug?
This forums is just other users, Microsoft has apparently abandoned us to our own devices. FYI, I can get Lync to work on my personal MacBook Pro, my iPhone 5, and even using Safari to join a Lync meeting on my machine that won't run the desktop app.
But running the application on the desktop is currently unworkable due to some notification hangup. 14.0.6 doesn't fix this, either, I get the same crash.
